  1. Hello,

My name is Emily, I was referred to your company by a blogger that wrote a Book review about one of your Books. Does your company offer Books to bloggers for review?

  2. I love your site, I just attempted to draw a horse using the instructions, its difficult for me to go outside of my old ways of doing things but it came out ok……….I really like your site easy to navigate too.

  3. Love your new website! It is great. Loved the painting of the lion. I like the lessons you have on the site too. As an adult wanting to learn different ways to draw as well as paint it is great!

  4. Hi,
I have been looking over your website and I went into your lessons is there way to look at all of them. I can only get into the ones that get highlighted. Please help. You have great information for beginners there. Thanks.

  5. hiya,

my daughter who is 9 loves art, but its one subject she struggles with. any tips on drawing at all?

    hayley x

    • Hi Hayley,

I just posted my 18 Tip for Drawing today! Maybe some of those will give you some ideas of how to help her. The other thing I would recommend is to think of drawing like any other skill someone learns, such as playing an instrument, learning a sport, or even reading. We don’t begin with the expectation of being able to do it just right the first time; instead, we start at a very basic level and build on it little by little. Drawing is just like that — we start by drawing simple things, gradually improving and working up to more difficult subjects. And the more someone draws, the more skilled he or she becomes. (I always try to point this out, especially to children, as they often expect their drawings to come out “perfectly” the first time and will give up if they don’t).

What I would encourage your daughter to do is to draw something every day. And so she doesn’t get discouraged, I would try finding some simpler pictures for her to start drawing from. I like using coloring pages for that reason — they have clear, bold lines that are sometimes easier to “see”. The pictures don’t have to be realistic; cartoon-y ones are fine, too. She can also try drawing objects around the house that wouldn’t involve a lot of detail, such a toothbrush, piece of fruit, cup, etc. Then, as she gets better at it and more confident, have her try drawing things that have a little more detail.

      Hope this helps!

  6. Hi Samantha

    I love your site…. πŸ˜‰

I am a 9 year old girl who found passion in art since the age of 3. I am usually sketching and painting flora and fauna as I appreciate their colour and how they stand out.

I would love to share some of my master pieces in your website
Please advice where should I send them

    Thank you

  7. Hi Samantha,
Thanks for the lessons,; Painting the Values, should you check the value
    to the Sqaures that’s painted.
I still have a hard time controlling the Water. Gave up, now I’m trying again.
Painting the mountain scenes, in warm and cool. Is where I have problem
learning to go light to dark, and keep the correct value. How do you dip the brush,
    steps, thank.
    any suggestion would be helpful,
    Anyway you can suggest something,

    • Hi Lois,

I really need to put together a video to show you. I’ll try to get one up soon. Regarding the values, though, the practice exercise was for you to be able to see how the ratio of water to paint changes the value. For example, the more paint you have, the darker the color will be; the more water you have, the lighter it will be. You don’t have to check them against the ones I painted.

Regarding controlling the water — each time you dip the brush, let the hairs brush against the edge of your container so the excess water is removed. Don’t worry if some of the paint goes out too — you’ll still have enough paint in your brush. If you feel like the water is still getting away from you, brush the hairs against the edge of the container again to get rid of even more water. You need a little bit of water to paint, but it doesn’t have to be runny. As long as the paint moves easily on the paper, it’s fine.

To go from light to dark, just add a little more paint. You can even do this directly on the paper if your paper is still wet.

Some things that might affect how your paint moves on the paper is they type of paper you’re using and the quality of the paints. Less expensive paints don’t do as well as the more costly ones. That can make things frustrating too.

But don’t give up!!! Sometimes it just takes a little extra practice. πŸ™‚

    • You’ve probably already sent in your entry, and I’m sure whatever you put down will be fine. They will get it figured out. I’m not a sponsor of the contest, but my guess would be that you would leave that part blank for them to fill in later.

    • The only two craft contests I have up right now are both monthly contests. Do you mean one of those? Both are ongoing, which means a new contest starts every month – so you’re never too late! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks for letting me know. I’ve removed the two entries. I also added a note to the contest page about stealing someone else’s work, and I will email the two people who sent in those entries as well. Thank again!

    • I occasionally teach classes at Hobby Lobby in Taylors, SC. I probably won’t be teaching again until the summer, though. Some of my classes are adult only, and others are a mixture of kids and adults.

  20. Hello! I just went to your website to look for an art contest and I saw the monthly art contest 2016. It said that the winner’s artwork will be chosen randomly.Does that mean the artwork is not even evaluated through the person’s ability but it’s just selected randomly on a website? Its kind of confused for me. Thank you πŸ™‚

    • Yes, that’s right. It would be too hard to judge since the entries are done by people of all ages. It’s more of an exercise for following a theme, creating a piece, and meeting a deadline.

      • You may not have had time to contact me yet – I understand the new year has been busy.
Or maybe you have tried and your email has been blocked by school filter – I have not received it yet.
I am providing a personal address.

  27. I emailed some pictures for y kids, if approved they will be published in gallery 4, I would like to know how long does it take to be approved and will I be notified.
    Thank you

    • When pictures are sent in using the form, I get them posted quickly. Otherwise it takes me a little longer to catch up on my emails. Then I go back and put them in the gallery — they should all be there now. I’m very sorry for the delay!

To search for a certain picture, you can also put the artist’s first name in the search box, and it should come up.
