Atelier Interactive Acrylics

I received several samples of Atelier Interactive Acrylics to try, and I really enjoyed working with them. They are so creamy and smooth, and the colors are vibrant. But in researching them, I found out more information that may just make them my favorite.

The Interactive Acrylics are made so that you can make them behave more like oils and prolong the drying time. Adding the Unlocking Formula (which I didn’t have) to the paint will give you more time to blend colors. You can also use it to re-wet dry paint to create softer edges.  You can see a demonstration of this below:

Now I want to try it! I am a very messy oil painter, so it’s not usually my medium of choice. But to have acrylic paints that can produce a similar result would be amazing! I’m going to order that unlocking medium soon!

The paints are comparable in price to other acrylics. Amazon sells a 12-tube set for about $23.00. This would be a good set to get if you just want to try the paints to see how they work. Each tube in this set is 20 oz., which is small. A 20 ml. tube is about 4 inches (10 cm) long – not enough to create a large painting. An 80 ml tube of one color costs anywhere between $7 – $15, though you can find them at discount art supply stores for less. Like all paints, some colors may contain hazardous materials. You can see them on Blick.com’s page — they are labeled with a 65.
